Woohoo! Today, I celebrate finishing the task at hand!
_____
You’ve heard the phrase…
“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.”
How about…
“When the going gets tough…RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!”
I really don’t even know where the first phrase came from, but I do know the latter one is often my preference! I may not always do it, but when things get tough, I’m often looking for that escape; however, there is something to be said for sticking it out. That’s not to say that there are not times when we should let go of the task at hand and move on.
There have been times in my life when I stuck with it and stuck with it until I knew that I had to make a change and move on. In these times of difficult decisions such as major job changes or switching churches, I highly recommend seeking God for guidance.
“In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” ~Proverbs 3:6
There are times, however, that when the going gets tough, we simply need to hold steady. I faced some challenges just this week. I automatically began to search for my next move. You see, I am very analytical. Math was one of my favorite subjects in school. I love it when I solve a math problem and get the answer correct! That seems to carry over into my life…I analyze the situation and try to find the best solution to the problem. So, even if my natural instinct (and solution to the problem) is to throw in the towel and run for the hills, most generally, I need to quiet myself and pray. I often find that I need to stand firm right where I am and let God make the next move. When He fights for me rather than me taking matters into my own hands, the victory is so much sweeter.
As for finishing the task at hand…the same applies. Basically, we weigh the cost as much as we can before we begin, but when the going gets tough, we have to decide. Whether it’s a small task or a large one, we must choose if it is worth the finish. I have found that in the instances when I am ready to throw in the towel, I often need a break to reboot…and that often involves prayer!! Then I can regain perspective and better distinguish if quitting what I’ve started is even an option.
This week, I chose to continue forward on a couple of occasions. So, tonight I celebrate the finish of this week on a positive note…and that task at hand– finished and ready for the next chapter!
“The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” ~Exodus 14:14
