Joy in Christmas

The house became mine and mine alone a little bit ago…well, at least for a few minutes! I had planned yesterday to make an early trip to town for today, but was very happy with my change of plans. So, as the house became mine for that few minutes this morning (and I wait for my husband to bring me back some sausage gravy and biscuits), I was thinking – and excited – about my “Christmassy” plans for today; I contemplated, said a prayer, and was reminded about the reason I can enjoy Christmas truly is because of the reason for the season.

As I sat down to write, I turned on some Christmas music, plugged in our Christmas tree that is adorned with solid red lights and red and gold decorations. I absolutely love, love, love this time of the year (although weather is alluding to springtime – it’s sunny and possibly record high temperatures here in Ohio today!)! From the time fall begins falling through each holiday including the excitement of a new year and new beginnings, there are so many reasons to celebrate!

As for Christmas specifically, I love the music, the decorations, the snow, the feeling of excitement and anticipation, the planning (oh, I love the planning!), the shopping, the gift-giving (especially that unexpected gift you may only buy someone once in a lifetime – and it’s ok), the baking, the Christmas movies, the music, the lights…the beautiful lights…too many to describe! And, the list goes on! So much to love; to celebrate!

The reason for the celebrating; the reason for the joy, you might ask, truly is the reason for the season.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above…” James 1:17 KJV

My ‘never-ending’ list of things that I love about Christmas, is made possible because of the most perfect gift of all – Jesus. Jesus said that he came that we “might have life, and…have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 KJV) I take Him at His word. I have so much to thank Him for…and during this precious time of year, I am reminded of that fact full fold.
